Academic rigor
LCCS is famous among high schools for one of the most intensive curriculums in the country. Every teacher handcrafts their course beyond the mandated curriculum, and we ask every student to learn alongside their classmates.
A handcrafted curriculum
LCCS has a handcrafted curriculum by each teacher beyond the mandated courses. New students work hard to adapt to the intensive study times they have to dedicate. We encourage all of our students to be collaborative with each other.
Class rank
LCCS believes in growth through friendly competition, so we rank our students to motivate them to do better than their classmates or to keep their place at the top of their class. But we don't believe class rank should dictate their futures, so rankings are used only within the school and aren't documented in any way.
National exam results
100% pass rate for LCCS Grade 12 students in the Ethiopian Higher Education Entrance Exam, with unmatched results.
The curriculum

GPA scaling
Our students are evaluated on a 100-point scale, as is standard for all high schools in Ethiopia. We record results on the 4.0 scale for unweighted GPA and the 5.0 scale for weighted GPA, and use a letter scale for easier GPA projection.
Weighted GPA adds +0.5 for Intermediate (I) subjects and +1.0 for Advanced (A) subjects to the standard GPA.
| Letter | Score (out of 100) | Unweighted GPA |
|---|---|---|
| A+ | 95–100 | 4.0 |
| A | 80–94 | 4.0 |
| B+ | 65–79 | 3.75 |
| B | 60–64 | 3.25 |
| C+ | 55–59 | 2.75 |
| C | 50–54 | 2.0 |
| D | 40–49 | 1.5 |
| F | Below 40 | 1.0 |

Beyond the classroom
Friday is basketball
LCCS is not just academic. One of the things everyone knows LCCS for is basketball. Under the strict supervision of our coach, Daniel, students find their passion for the game and hone their skills to the fullest; many players from our A team have gone on to play professionally. Friday lunchtime is dedicated to basketball: Grade 12's A team against Grade 11's, LCCS A against B, another school, or even LCCS alumni. Whoever the opponent, the LCCS community never misses the game.
